World Vision Malawi, with support from World Vision Canada, on Tuesday donated assorted items to community-based organisations (CBOs) and community-based child care centres (CBCCs) to boost early childhood education in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mposa’s area in Machinga.

The items included door frames, chairs, see-saw, cups, plates, footballs, blackboards and Likuni Phala worth over K3.5 million (about $8 750).

World Vision programme manager for Mposa Development Programme, Damyo Ngosi-Msofi, said her organisation donated the materials after noting that early childhood development in the area needed support.

She said her organisation want children to be protected from abuse to become educated leaders.

“From the experience we have had, it shows that children who undergo early childhood education perform brilliantly than those who don’t. We want to prepare them so that when they enrol for primary education they should perform wonders.

“We want to at least educate, nourish and empower 21 800 people to be self-reliance come 2026 when the programme phases out,” she said.

T/A Mposa hailed WVI for implementing various programmes in his area, saying the area has registered great strides in education, maternal health agriculture and others.

Chairperson for Timverane CBO Cedric Sitanda said the donation will go a long way in improving the status of early childhood education in the area.
