World Vision eases resource shortage at Kapanda CDSS
Northern Education Division principal quality assurance officer Enious Nyasulu has acknowledged a severe shortage of desks and other essential resources in secondary schools across the region.
Speaking on Thursday at Kapanda Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Nkhata Bay, he highlighted the extent of the crisis during a World Vision Malawi donation of educational resources to the school.

Said Nyasulu: “Our division is probably the largest in Malawi, with nearly 239 secondary schools. But most of these schools face a severe shortage of desks. Many students are forced to sit on the floor, which becomes particularly challenging for girls.”
He urged other development partners to follow World Vision’s example and support education resource improvements.

150 desks, 30 mattresses, library tables and chairs, 500 dictionaries and Bibles.
Kapanda CDSS headteacher Daniel Kabiya expressed gratitude, noting that the contribution addresses critical resource shortages stemming from the school’s expansion to a double-stream in 2021.
“Previously, the desk shortage was severe and the girls’ hostel, built for 70 students but now housing 122, lacked enough mattresses. This donation is a huge relief,” Kabiya said.
World Vision programme manager for Mzimba and Nkhata Bay districts, Limbani Gondwe, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to education.
The donation is part of World Vision’s continued efforts to empower local communities by supporting education and resource development initiatives.
