World Vision fights hunger among children
World Vision Malawi has moved in to address hunger among children to improve their nutrition statuses, thereby enhancing their participation in education.
Through The Enough Campaign, the organisation on Friday held dialogue sessions with learners under Salima Children’s Parliament at St. Francis of Assisi Primary School in the district.

Speaking in an interview after the dialogue, World Vision Salima district sponsorship project officer Charles Percy Gama said his organisation will continue to champion efforts to alleviate malnutrition among children.
He said: “Hunger impacts children’s education as those who attend school without food struggle to concentrate in class.
“This is why we introduced the dialogue sessions to ensure that children discuss the challenges they face in relation to lack of food in their homes.”
Gama advised parents and guardians to grow different crops to enable them to provide their children with six food groups.
A child parliamentarian, Triza Banda, thanked the organisation for giving the children space to deliberate and propose solutions on how to end hunger in the district.
She said many parents lack knowledge about nutrition while others hold onto religious and cultural misconceptions that deny children certain foods.
“Some cultural beliefs forbid children from eating certain foodstuffs such as eggs. Yet, eggs are part of the six food groups needed for children to grow healthy. I urge such parents to start giving their children nutritious food,” said Triza.
World Vision is implementing various projects, including sponsorship which targets children in the district with funding from World Vision Taiwan.
