has commended initiatives that World Vision Malawi has been implementing to transform livelihoods in traditional authorities (T/A) Mazengera and Chikwete in Nkhoma in the district.

Speaking during a field visit by officials from the district council to appreciate the interventions in Nkhoma Area Programme, the council’s representative Wilson Chilani said they were impressed to see that the initiatives were in line with the Malawi 2063 (MW2063), the country’s long-term development strategy.

He said the project is transforming livelihoods through youth empowerment and promotion of good hygiene in the area.

“We are pleased that among the things they are doing, they have not left out the youth. These youths are taught vocational skills and given resources to start businesses,” said Chilani.

He further observed that the organisation’s interventions at Nkhoma are holistic as they address various aspects of people’s lives.

World Vision Lilongwe district programme manager Harold Munthali said the field visit helped the organisation assess their work.

“We are working with about 453 youths. Some have been trained at Malingunde and Nkhoma in Lilongwe and others at Bowe in Kasungu in vocation skills,” he said.

Munthali said the project is implemented with technical expertise from Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority.

“We are focusing on mindset change among the youth under Empowered World View programme, where we teach children skills that will help them grow up with good mentality of elevating their well-being,” he said.
