Youth Wing commits to keep girls in schools

A group of youth in Mangochi affiliated to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) called MCP Youth Wing have embarked on socio-economic activities that would help keep girls in school.

The Youth Wing’s leader, Isaac Adan announced the initiatives on Saturday at St. Augustine 2 Primary School Ground in the district during the presentation of prizes to winners of the netball bonanza the grouping organised in collaboration with Mangochi MCP Born Free Women.

Adan said netball bonanzas, quizzes, debates, among others as some of the initiatives they have lined up to do to keep girls busy so that they complete their education.

He said: “We want our girls to complete education and become reliable citizens who will transform their areas and the district at large.”

Mangochi MCP Born Free Women chairlady, Hanifa Imani expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the bonanza, saying the participation among girls was impressive.

“We organised the bonanza to give our girls something that can keep them busy while we were also identifying rare talents.

“We are happy with the turn out and we promise to continue doing more,” she said.

In his remarks, the party’s eastern region chairperson Foster Ntandama commended the Youth Wing and the Born Free Women for the initiative, saying it augurs well with the party’s plan of empowering the youth through sports.

Eliza Chisani, one of the girls who participated in the bonanza from Mangochi Sisters thanked the organisers for the bonanza, saying it created an exciting moment to waste their time.

Four teams namely, Lilanguka Queens, Moto Sisters, Mangochi Sisters and M’baluku Sisters competed for the bonanza, which saw Mangochi Sisters walloping all the teams and became number one.

They received K150 000 for being number one followed by M’baluku Sisters, Lilanguka and Moto Sisters which received K100 000, K75 000 and K50,000 for being second, third and fourth respectively.
