Zambia-Malawi bilateral ties to improve on trade

New Zambian High Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Panji Kaunda says the bilateral relationship between Malawi and Zambia will improve trade ties by ensuring that people plying their businesses are facing no glitches at the borders.

He said this on Tuesday when he presented his letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

Kaunda, first-born son to Zambia’s founding president Kenneth Kaunda, said Malawi and Zambia are neighbours as such the people plying their trade between the two countries should not face hurdles when using the borders.

He said: “Malawi and Zambia are almost one as we share same traditions, language and food. My role here sent by the President [Hachilema Hakainde] is to cement further, the relationship that has been there for so many years.

“Secondly, as you are aware we are in the era of economy, and our role is that the economy of the two countries is entwined as they already are.”

Kaunda ci ted the railway connection, Nacala Corridor and one-stop-border post in Mchinji as projects that will ensure fast clearance of goods at the border. He said this will in turn improve trade and harmonise the relationship between the two countries.

Kaunda previously served as Deputy Minister of Defense in the PF regime.
