Head of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe Tarcisious Ziyaye has said selflessness and dedication among priests are paramount to guiding the flock towards salvation.

Ziyaye made the remarks at Nathenje Parish in Lilongwe Saturday last week after ordaining Deacon Sylvester Chasweka into priesthood.

The archbishop said enlightened and dedicated clergy can play a crucial role in helping the faithful save their souls from destruction.

“Through prayers, the clergy ought to connect the faithful to God. And for this to happen, the clergy must stand steadfast in guiding members,” said Ziyaye.

He also called upon the newly ordained cleric to be exemplary when discharging his priestly duties.

Ziyaye appealed to Christians to pray for their priests, saying priests are also humans who can be exposed to temptations.

Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Lilongwe has announced that it will be ordaining four more deacons in the next few weeks to beef up the number of priests under its wings.
