A high-level conference called Exercise Africa Endeavour Final Planning, which has drawn together 240 delegates from 35 countries, including USA, Canada, The Netherlands, France, Sweden and the host Malawi, is underway in Lilongwe.
The conference, according to US Ambassador Jeanine Jackson is aimed at preparing the participating delegates for the final exercise slated for August 6-15 in Zambia.
Jackson said the Zambia exercise will also develop communications capabilities of the African Union (AU) and regional economic communications for successful peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations on the continent.
“The engagement provides a realistic environment to train, test and build partner capacity to execute communications operations and information sharing, thus helping to remove obstacles in communication,” said Jackson.
The US and the US African Command (Africom) have sponsored the training to increase command, control and communications capacities of African nations by encouraging training and procedure that overcome the barriers created by language, borders and culture.
On his part, Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander General Henry Odillo said the strategy of working together through multinational and combined training is commendable.
