Athletic Association of Malawi (AAM) has selected four athletes to represent Malawi at the All African Games to take place in Asaba, Nigeria from August 1-6.
The four are Kefas Kasten, Stain Jafali, George Jana Jnr and Cecilia Mhango. Except Jana, the rest are Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers.
According to AAM general secretary Frank Chitembeya, the four were selected based on their good records in various national competitions.
Jafali will participate in 100 and 200-metre (m) races while Kasten will compete in 10 000m. Mhango will compete in 5 000m with Jana participating in throws-discuss and shot put.
“The four have been outstanding in various national tournaments, including the recent Be More Race and the National Track and Field event held on Saturday.
“Kefas scooped the first position in all competitions while the others also came tops in most tournaments. It is our hope that they will represent us well in Nigeria,” he said.
Chitembeya said the four will camp for 10 days before departure.
Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) treasurer Henry Sakala has since assured the four athletes of full support.
“We are committing our full support that have been chosen,” he said in an interview on Saturday.
