Four contestants in the ongoing Sunbird Search for a Star bid bye to the competition on Saturday evening during the second eviction show held at the Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

Raphael Banda, Linda Chikoti, Obedi Kananji and Joshua Ross-Smith were shown the exit after failing to battle through the gruelling contest.

Fifteen of the 17 contestants who survived the first eviction took to the stage with none disappointing the judging panel of Marvin Hanke, Alinane Mphande and Dumisani Mfune.

“I am happy because the quality continues to improve at every stage and the patrons are our witnesses. Almost everyone gave out their best and deserved to go to the next round,” said Hanke, a seasoned music producer.

Chiyanjano Maimba the sole Salima-based contestant, who was evicted during the first eviction in Lilongwe before surviving on a wild card method, was another star to watch.

Clad in a blue dress, black belt and black shoe, the teenager knew a successful performance would attract more votes to save her during the next eviction scheduled for Lilongwe in two weeks’ time.

Newly wed Grace Million was another artist of the day. Fresh from the wedding banquet, the easy-voiced artist belted two romantic tunes including Whitney Houston’s classic I Will Always Love You which she dedicated to her new beau who joined her on stage during the performance.

And as if to exhibit just how stiff the competition was, one of the contestants Sigele Akim collapsed in awe when eviction was imminent.

Sunbird group sales and marketing manager Titania Katenga-Kaunda said her office is impressed with the quality displayed by the contestants.

“The competition is getting tougher and tougher. We believe in tight competition and the contestants are living by that,” she said.

Musician Maskal decorated the event with a music performance, with his hits Udalire and Zili Ndi Iwe thrilling the audience.

Facing next eviction are Gift Vole, Ruth Magona, Dorothy Chidothi, Stainley Matewere, Kondwani Luwe, Brian Kuchilowa, Chisomo Nteteka, Sithembile Banda, Akim, Jayne Banda, Adrian Kwelepeta, Maimba and Million.
