Flames preparations for next month’s 2014 World Cup decisive qualifier has suffered a setback following captain Joseph Kamwendo’s withdrawal from the squad that will face Rwanda in an international friendly match next Wednesday in Kigali.

Kamwendo said he has excused himself from the strength-testing match against the Amabvubi because his Mozambican club Liga Maculmana has a crucial game on Sunday.

“I have told FAM that I will not make it for the Rwanda game because we have a crucial match here on Sunday, but I will definitely be available for Nigeria game,” said Kamwendo.

However, at press time On Thursday, FAM was yet to confirm Kamwendo’s unavailability.

But there are indications that he might be replaced by Douglas Chirambo.

The Flames are scheduled to depart for Kigali on Sunday.
