Lilongwe sex-starved man resorts to suicide
When Haswel Mulonga’s wife denied her husband the opportunity to exercise his conjugal rights on Thursday afternoon, she had no idea that the decision would nearly leave her a widow.
On the day tragedy almost befell the family, 32-year-old Mulonga, a bricklayer who lives with his wife and three children in Dubai, Area 49, Lilongwe, asked his wife for sex.
But she refused his advances at that particular time, preferring to do it later in the evening.
According to police and sources in Dubai, after turning him down, Mulonga’s wife left to draw water, only to find her husband hanging in the house upon her return.
“The wife called for help and people rushed to the scene where they rescued Mulonga,” said a source.
Kanengo Police spokesperson Esther Mkwanda confirmed the incident, saying officers rushed to the scene where they arrested Mulonga.
“He is in custody and upon interrogation, he admitted that he had wanted to take away his life because his wife had denied him sex,” said Mkwanda.
She alleged that after neighbours had rescued him, Mulonga went berserk, grabbed a panga and began chasing people and damaging property.
Mulonga, who comes from Kumfunda Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachere in Dedza, is charged with attempting to terminate his life, contrary to Section 229 of the Penal Code.
