Ekwendeni back at Mzuzu Stadium
TNM Super League side Ekwendeni Hammers have gone back to their home to Mzuzu Stadium.
The club shifted to Rumphi Stadium in May in quest of improved gate revenue.
Ekwendeni Hammers general secretary Benjamin Thole said the shift to Rumphi Stadium has not worked.
He said: “The reason behind this shift is poor patronage of the games at Rumphi Stadium which reduces our projected revenues. So we just decided to go back to our base at Mzuzu Stadium.
“Ekwendeni Hammers FC at its recent meeting resolved to change its home ground from Rumphi Stadium back to Mzuzu Stadium. This is because what we were getting at Rumphi Stadium is similar to what we were getting at Mzuzu Stadium.”
Sulom representative in the North, Henzie Banda, said the club has been granted its wish.
“I can confirm that Sulom has granted their wish. They cannot be barred. As I am talking to you, their next game on Wednesday will take place at Mzuzu Stadium. This will be their home venue up to the end of this season,” he said.
Their match against at Rumphi Stadium grossed K770 000 and they got K167 000 as their share.
Mzuzu Stadium supervisor Paul Machilika said they have only allowed the team to host Bullets game on Wednesday.
“We have only allowed them for Bullets game this Wednesday. We will need to analyse their application before we grant a full stay,” he said.
Mzuzu-based soccer analyst Julius Mithi backed the team’s desire to improved gate management to realise good takings.
“They have done well. This is the way to go until Mzuzu Stadium should have good cashier firms who are professional and honest. Otherwise, the current gate revenue management set up leaves a lot to be desired,” he said.
