MDF urges men, women in uniform to preserve culture
Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Command and Staff College deputy commandant and chief instructor Colonel Alfred Matambo says men and women in uniform must embrace and respect cultural diversity.
In an interview after a cultural day in Salima on Saturday, he described the event as successful as it showcased rich customs and traditions from across Africa.

The ceremony was held under the theme ‘Harnessing cultural heritage for enhanced securing and sustainable development in a dynamic world’ with support from NBS Bank plc.
Matambo said: “The theme is in line with the exhibition that included traditional dances, food, clothes and it was successful.

understanding that will support them during the course.”
He said they expect the officers to apply and preserve the shared customs and traditions during the course and after the course when they discharge their respective duties.
The event’s chairperson Major Jairos Maganizo thanked the participants for their cooperation and support to ensure the day’s success.
“It has been a fruitful day and we thank everyone for being part of it to showcase the customs and traditions,” he said.
NBS Bank Salima service centre manager Treen Maurice said they sponsored the event with K2 million as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.
“We have an obligation to support and we have a good relationship with MDF. Last year we also attended their cultural day,” he said.
The event included senior command staff course students from Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Eswatini, Botswana and Kenya.
