Nomads coach unhappy with venue change

TNM Super League leaders Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira says Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has inconvinienced the club by fixing  match against Creck Sporting Club at Balaka Stadium today.

The Nomads use Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre as their home ground, but Sulom general secretary Williams Banda yesterday said the facility, which is owned by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been booked for other activities.

Said Mpinganjira: “We just arrived last evening [Monday] from Mponela [in Dowa] where we played Mafco and today [yesterday] we are on the road again to Balaka for tomorrow’s match when we were made to understand that the match would be played at Kamuzu Stadium.

“It just doesn’t add up because our players will be affected physically with the frequent long travelling…fatigue will creep in.

“I think Sulom would have done better in its planning and we do not even know in what condition the [Balaka Stadium] pitch is.”

But Banda said: “The stadium is owned by the ministry and we have no absolute control over its programmes.”

Nevertheless, the Nomads gaffer said they are ready for the match.

He said: “Our focus is to keep on doing well right to the end and fight for the league title and we hope to do well tomorrow [today] though we do not have enough time to rest and prepare for the match.”

The Nomads, who remain the only side yet to lose a match, top the flagship league with 38 points from 16 matches, a point above their second-placed rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets, who will also be in action today against table-anchors Songwe Border United at Karonga Stadium.

On his part, Creck Sporting coach Eliah Kananji, whose side is 10th with 19 points from the same number of games, said they anticipate a tough match.

“We are facing the leaders, who are yet to lose, so it won’t be easy. But that doesn’t bother us, we are going to fight for all the points on offer,” he said.

In the first round, the Nomads won 1-0.

Meanwhile, Bullets coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda  has warned his charges not to underrate bottom-placed Songwe.

“They have improved a lot lately judging by their results and we shouldn’t expect a walkover, especially at their backyard. But we are ready for them,” he said.

Songwe are still hunting for their first win, having drawn twice and lost 14 games.

Their coach Christopher Nyambose said in an interview that it is just a matter of time before they start registering good results.

“We are getting there and tomorrow we will fight for a win,” he said.

In the first round, Bullets thrashed the Ndenga Boys 7-0.

In other matches, third-placed Silver Strikers, who have 33 points, host Chitipa United at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe while Civil Service United face Ekhaya FC at Civo Stadium also in the capital city.
