4000 families receive relief food in Mangochi District

Faizan Global Relief Foundation has supported 4 000 families observing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in Mangochi District with food packs.

Speaking after the donation at Makawa Primary School in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mponda on Sunday, the organisation’s director of communications and public relations Ibrahim Omar Mataya said the gesture is part of their nationwide humanitarian response aimed at supporting vulnerable Muslim families during the holy month.

“We want the Muslims to break their fast and observe Suhoor and Iftar with dignity, without the burden of searching for food in line with our religion’s teaching of being generous in the month of Ramadan,” he said.

Mataya said they have, so far, reached out to 20 000 families with relief food during Ramadan in Blantyre, Nsanje, Zomba, Thyolo and Salima and Mangochi districts.

He appealed to other organisations to help Muslims who are fasting.

“Let us support each other with whatever Allah has given us,” said Mataya.

A beneficiary, Sabiti Wilson from Mpemba Village in T/A Mponda, thanked the organisation for the support.

“At least we will have something to eat after breaking the fast,” she said.

Another beneficiary Milward Lifa from group village head Makawa said the food will give him ample time to concentrate on prayers instead of spending time doing piecework to earn money to buy food for breaking the fast.

The food package included maize flour, beans, rice, soya pieces and sugar.

The organisation also ran another food distribution exercise to support families in the country.
