He highlighted how honesty and trust can open up opportunities, contrasting this with the negative consequences of dishonesty.

Kumwenda cited Chiundira’s exemplary career, saying it was marked by integrity and trustworthiness, allowing him to take on significant roles within the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed financial services group.

He said: “I am happy to honour one of our loyal leaders who has been with Nico Group for 30 years. Mr. Chiundira was instrumental in setting up Nico General Insurance in Zambia, which is now one of the top insurance companies there.”

He said Chiundira will continue to serve as a board director of NBS Bank plc and Sanlam Allianz in Uganda where Nico Group has investments.

In his remarks, Chiundira hailed Nico Group for recognising the contributions he made to its growth.

“It feels good to be honoured and valued by your employer. It’s not something that happens often and I greatly appreciate the Nico Group for celebrating my retirement in this way,” he said.

Chiundira encouraged young people to be reliable and maintain their integrity, adding that no company would want to hire someone whose integrity is questionable.

Nico was established in 1971 as a short-term insurance company and has since grown to be a financial services group with operations in Zambia, Mozambique and Uganda through its associate firm Sanlam.
