Uncertainty over Bullets backroom staff

FCB Nyasa Bullets say they are yet to decide on the future of the club’s backroom staff as they finalise the process of hiring a new head coach.

The People’s Team last week parted ways with immediate-past interim head coach Gilbert Chirwa and appointed Heston Munthali as the caretaker coach.

Bullets acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga in an interview yesterday could not say whether the current backroom staff will be maintained or if the new coach will choose his own team.

“I think it is too early to start conversations about the fate of the backroom staff. Let us cross the bridge when we get there,” he said.

However, the two previous head coaches Kallisto Pasuwa and Peter Mponda chose their backroom staff.

Bullets are in the process of interviewing short-listed candidates to fill the vacant position and the candidates include former Mighty Wanderers British coach Mark Harrison, South Africa-based German coach Ernst Middendorp and the club’s former coach Gerald Phiri.

The position fell vacant following the firing of  Mponda towards the end of last season who was replaced by Chirwa in an interim capacity.

Under Chirwa’s  tutelage, Bullets sealed the runners-up slot in the flagship league by winning their last match 4-0 against relegated Mzuzu City Hammers. They also won the Castel Challenge Cup.

Currently, the record17-time champions lie sixth in the FDH Bank Premiership with 13 points from six matches, having won twice and drawn four times.
