France-based Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga says her sister Temwa Chawinga’s return to the squad has further boosted the team’s morale ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) in Morocco.
The US-based Kansas City Current forward joined the Malawi Women’s National Football Team in Rabat on Sunday, ending her 17-month absence from national duty.
In an interview yesterday, Tabitha said Temwa’s arrival stirred excitement within the Scorchers camp.
“Her arrival has boosted the mood in camp and it is good to have her ahead of the competition,” she said.
Temwa could not be reached for comment yesterday, but her manager Theana Msolomba said she is excited to join the Scorchers.
“Obviously she is happy and looking forward to the tournament and is optimistic that Malawi will showcase good football,” she said.
Temwa’s arrival completed the Scorchers’ arsenal for their debut continental showpiece.
The reigning US women’s top-flight league Most Valuable Player and golden boot winner last featured for the Scorchers in a friendly match against Zambia in February last year.
Since then, she has not showed up due to injuries, club commitments or personal issues.
But in a recent interview, the 28-year-old striker said she is committed to national duty.
