Old Mutual fetes clients, urges stronger govt, private bond

Old Mutual Investment Group has called on policymakers to strengthen collaboration with the private sector as the country works to overcome economic challenges and return to higher economic growth.

The Group’s chief executive officer Tavona Biza said the private sector has a critical role to play in driving economic transformation through strategic investments, while government should focus on creating an enabling environment through sound and supportive policies.

Speaking in Lilongwe during a dinner event organised for clients and their spouses, Biza said closer collaboration between government and the private sector was essential to unlocking investment and accelerating economic recovery.

“The private sector has a critical role to play in supporting economic transformation through strategic investments, while government must create an enabling environment through sound policies,” he said.

Biza said Old Mutual continues to invest in productive sectors of the economy, including agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and mining, as part of its contribution to economic growth and wealth creation.

He said every economic challenge could also present opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and investment, urging Malawians to remain resilient and plan deliberately for the future.

He also urged couples to embrace joint financial planning and make major financial decisions together, saying collective planning and open communication could help households navigate economic difficulties and build lasting financial security. One of the participants, Alfred Banda, concurred with him. He urged spouses to openly discuss their financial goals, plan jointly and share responsibility for building long-term financial security.

“Couples who work together in managing their finances are better placed to navigate economic challenges and achieve their financial aspirations,” he added. The dinner, which brought together clients and their spouses, formed part of Old Mutual Malawi’s broader efforts to promote financial literacy and encourage responsible financial planning.
