FAM rewards beach soccer team
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya says he has approved a K2.5 million reward for the Malawi Beach Soccer National Team for qualifying victory over Seychelles.
The players get K500 000 each for a win in high-profile competitions and Haiya announced that for sealing their qualification, the Hustlers will get K3 million each.

Malawi demolished Seychelles 10-1 at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima to sail through 16-3 on aggregate, booking their third consecutive ticket to the continental showpiece to be hosted by Senegal.
Announcing the increase through his Facebook page, the FAM boss also said they are planning to send the team to Senegal early to play some international friendlies.
“Qualifying for Afcon is one of the key priorities of our Football Transformation Agenda. We are, therefore, planning to send the team to Senegal early to play international friendly matches ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations,” he said.
Haiya has also called upon the corporate world to partner with the team as it prepares for the continental showdown.
In an interview Malawi Beach Soccer National Team captain Isaac Kajamu thanked Haiya and FAM for the gesture, describing it as a big motivation.
“As we will be going to [Beach Soccer] Afcon, we will work hard to achieve more wins.”
On his part, Beach Soccer Association chairperson Force Ngwira also hailed Haiya for the gesture.
He said: “This is a big plus to us and the reward will motivate the players. Personally, it came as a shock because I did not expect it. It is now up to the players to show appreciation by fiving their all at the actual competition.
“It is the first time this has happened and I thank our president for his commitment to develop.”
The Beach Soccer Afcon kicks off on November 7 2026 and will serve as the Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 Beach Soccer World Cup.
