The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has urged people from traditional authorities (T/As) Phambala and Kwataine in Ntcheu District to report the vice to create a corrupt-free society.

Speaking on Saturday at Ntonda Court in T/A Phambala,  ACB principal public relations officer Egrita Ndala said through anti-corruption clinics, they want to empower communities to detect and fight corruption.

“We are implementing various initiatives, including conducting sensitisation meetings on the evils of corruption,” she said.

Ndala: Sector heads will respond to issues

Ndala said community leaders at Ntonda raised concerns on development projects, delivery of healthcare service and issues surrounding the Affordable Inputs Programme.

“Sector heads will be required to come and respond to the issues raised,” she said.

Ndala said she was optimistic that the anti-corruption clinics will increase awareness on the evils of corruption among rural communities.

Phambala Area Development Committee chairperson Herbert Wandawanda commended the initiative and described it as an eye-opener.

He said community members were now ready to prevent and report corruption to the ACB.

“We have been empowered to speak out on corruption issues. Further, we want councils to follow procedures when implementing projects,” said Wandawanda.

Yeremiya Mindano, a community member, said he learned a lot about corruption through the mobile clinics.

He said he will use various means to notify the bureau on any suspicious actions by duty-bearers.

“Corruption retards development as resources meant to implement projects are misused,” he said.

ACB is conducting the two-week campaign through football bonanzas, roadshows and community engagement.
