The batiks are linked to promoting peace and love: Singano

Few months after introducing the world to his new theme ‘Culture’ in his art works, Lunzu based visual artist Ellis Singano has released a new set of seven new batiks on the theme.

In an interview Singano whose previous productions have been diversely themed said the seven batiks will be on the market by end of the week. He however said two of the seven, Foster Mother and Clash of Culture are already on the market and are selling fast.

“I am back with my new productions, but they are all under my 2013 theme of promoting culture. All the messages contained in the art work talk about Malawian cultures and at some point task the mind of the reader to think more and beyond obvious judgment on our cultures,” said Singano.

He said the Foster Mother batik describes the love mothers have for their children, but on the other hand shows that most women enjoy putting their own babies on the back. He said this denies other children such as orphans the motherly love.

On Clash of Cultures, Singano said he is preaching about the cultural clashes that occur because of differences in cultural beliefs.

He said the art work is promoting oneness among people of different cultures and reminds people that culture is a learned behaviour while a human being is a natural creature created by God to live together and be friendly.

“The seven batiks speak along the realms of culture and are linked to promoting peace and love. There are many other batiks coming under the same theme, but I will also be producing some batiks with other themes to ensure people who like other messages on other issues can access them,” he said adding that he is currently using textile dye in the productions.

Meanwhile, Singano has said more of his new productions will be available in Lilongwe where he is transferring in a weeks time for a project he is working on with artist Elson Kambalu.
