Speaking in an interview after sending the last 53 students, including boys and girls to South Africa, Ismail said the 75 students got full scholarships from Asum to enable them get quality education and become leaders in various Islamic schools in Malawi.

“We want these children to get higher positions in society after completing their studies including tertiary education. All the children have been guaranteed jobs by Asum. We have several Islamic academies in Malawi where we want them to work as principals after they have graduated,” said Ismail.

He said apart from education, Asum will offer international university scholarships to those who will excel in their secondary studies.

Ismail said the funds committed to the scholarships cover all expenses, including travels, tuition and living expenses for seven years, adding that Asum has been sponsoring Malawian students within and abroad for several years.

One of the beneficiaries, Shadreck Luwemba, said the chance to study in South Africa has relieved his parents of the struggle to pay for his studies locally.
