Surestream Academy’s wonderkid Tony Baisi has taken the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) First Division by storm as he is leading the scorers chart with 20 goals from 11 games.

The 15-year-old striker scouted from Chikhwawa, scored his 20th goal on Mother’s Day as Surestream beat Makoka 3-1 at Makoka ground.

Mike Mkwate and Levison Maganizo scored the other goals for Surestream while John Makoko claimed the consolation goal for the hosts.

Surestream technical adviser Patricio Kulemeka said while Baisi has been the centrepiece of their remarkable run in which they have won 10 out of 11 games, drawing the other. They now have 31 points.

“The boy [Baisi] is our hitman, he has the knack and hunger for goals, but it would be unfair not to recognise the team spirit that exists in the team and all the players have contributed to our success.

“In fact, there are quite a number of teams that have enquired about him, but we have told them that he is not for sale.

“Actually, we are realising our dream to develop the future of Malawi football and Baisi is among four players we are planning to send overseas for trials in the near future,” said Kulemeka.

Their closest contenders are Luchenza who are trailing by nine points, but have played one game more. On third position are Blantyre ADD who have 19 points, also from 12 games.

In other games, Chinangwa Madrid lost to Rays of Hope 1-0, New Stars beat Hiras 3-0, Supirior Halaal edged Stone 2-1. In Premier Division, BNC beat White Eagles 3-2, Zomba United beat White Bullets 2-0, Tigers Reserves came out 2-1 victors against Gree Hawks.
