Kondowe (With Ball): Take responsibility

The venue of Big Bullets’ home TNM Super League second-round meeting with Blue Eagles today was a subject of uncertainty yesterday morning in view of Kamuzu Stadium closure.

But as we went to press Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Innocent Bottomani said the game has been switched to Zomba Community Centre ground.

“The assumption was that the stadium would reopen by today, but it appears there are other technicalities which us and FAM have to finalise such as the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that needs to be signed by all stakeholders,” said Bottomani.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said lawyers were still working on the draft of the MoU.

“It should be ready in the next few days so that stakeholders can be invited for the signing ceremony. So, if anything, the stadium should be ready probably this coming weekend,” said Nyirenda.

Earlier in the day Eagles coach Derklerk Msakaukona confirmed the uncertainty.

“We are leaving Lilongwe for the Southern Region ready to go and play whereever they decide. It is not a problem for us,” Msakakuona said at 11.30 am.

Tomorrow, Eagles travel to Zomba to face Red Lions.

Ahead of the match, Bullets captain Fischer Kondowe knows that the league presents them the only silverware prospect in an otherwise dry season.

Kondowe has rallied his troops to take scoring responsibility. Bullets are sixth on 28 points from 18 games.

“After beating Kamuzu Barracks [three weeks ago], we gained some confidence that we can score, but we cannot just depend on strikers for goals,” Kondowe said on Friday.

In another Super League match today, Civo face stubborn rookies Mponela United at Civo.
