Biwi Health Centre shines in measles vaccination
Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has expressed satisfaction with quality healthcare service delivery that Biwi Health Centre in Lilongwe is providing to the community.
She said this on Tuesday when she made a surprise visit to the facility and found that it has vaccinated over 6 000 children against measles out of its target of 9 500 children.
Chiponda said for the country to succeed in healthcare service delivery, it needs workers who are focused and committed to achieving specific goals.

“The ministry launched the measles vaccination campaign last month and within two days, this health centre has vaccinated 6 000 children. This only demonstrates the commitment, good planning and strong relationship with the community,” she said.
Chiponda urged mothers and guardians to bring their children for vaccination as the government wants to fight the disease in the country.
“It is an important step in preventing the further spread of measles in the country,” she said.
But Chiponda condemned theft of drugs in hospitals, saying the vice was becoming rampant.
Biwi Health Centre officer in-charge Ella Lungu thanked the minister for visiting the facility.
She said: “Your visit has motivated us and we will work hard to deliver the best services to our clients because this is what we have been called to do.
“We have succeeded because we planned well. We informed the community about the importance of the vaccine. So the people were ready for the vaccination.”
Memory Saidi, from Biwi Township, said she had her child vaccinated to protect her against measles.
Malawi has reported 683 measles cases since October 2024 and is conducting a five-day vaccination campaign in six districts, namely Nkhotakota, Salima, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Blantyre and Lilongwe
