“In this case, it shall be the reading of prophecies about Jesus from his birth from old and new testaments.”

This year, Blantyre Joint Choir has partnered Blantyre City Council which has provided the venue for the event.

“We organise this function every year and only took a break during Covid-19 time. This year, we thought of involving the city fathers who welcomed the idea. They have provided their town hall for free and they will take care of other associated  costs,” said Mzumara.

The choir has invited Blantyre residents and those from surrounding areas to patronise for free.

“Everyone is invited to join the family event as we commemorate the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ,” he said.

The council’s director of recreation, arts and cultural services Ackley Kananji said they felt obliged to be part of the annual event.

“When Blantyre Joint Choir brought the concept to us, we were eager to be part to bring together the city’s residences as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Blantyre Joint Choir was formed in 1978 and is a member of Evangelical Association of Malawi.

It has other membership from The Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, CCAP, Assemblies of God, Word Alive and many more.

This year’s cantata will be held under the theme ‘For unto us a child is born’.
