Bob to be in charge of Nomads till season end

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have said the club’s assistant coach Bob Mpinganjira will be in charge of the team as acting coach till the end of the 2024 season.

Following the decision to terminate its immediate-past coach Meck Mwase a fornight ago, the club said in a statement that “further announcements regarding the coaching situation would be made in due course”.

And in an interview yesterday, Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi said: “A decision has been made and Bob will see us through to the end of the season.

“Further considerations will be made at the end of the season.”

On whether there are any specific targets set for the coach, he said: “We are still in contention in two competitions remaining this season, [the Castel Challenge Cup and the TNM Super League], who knows what might happen.”

In a separate interview, Mpinganjira confirmed receiving communication from the club in an interview yesterday.

He said: “Obviously, the target is to finish the season on a high so that I can be considered for a permanent deal next season.

“We are still in contention for the league and we’ll try our best in the remaining games and see what happens in the end.

“Of course, there is also the Castel Challenge Cup. It will be a consolation to finish with a silverware to encourage those that sponsor the team and the Wanderers family in general.”

The former Wanderers striker has so far been in charge of four matches, leading them to thequarter-finals of the Castel Challenge Cup after thrashing Chipoka United 10-1 and booting out Creck Sporting Club 4-1 on post-match penalties following a one-all draw in regulation time.

He also guided them to 5-0 and 1-0 wins over Mighty Tigers and Bangwe All Stars in league matches.
