Bullets acquire Blantyre Zero

Nyasa Big Bullets have acquired Blantyre Zero FC as their women’s football team while Silver Strikers are still searching with Skippers FC as potential suitors.

The two top-flight clubs’  interest in  women’s football clubs comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently made it mandatory for clubs interested in competing in the CAF club championships to have women’s outfits.

This is also a requirement for a top-flight league team under the Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM)) Club Licensing System.

Bullets and Silver qualify for the continental championships for being the country’s TNM Super League champions and runners’ up, respectively.

Ngwira: We are happy

Bullets, through the People’s Team chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda, confirmed in a statement yesterday that they have acquired the FAM Southern Region Women’s Football League side following the approval of the club’s board.

“With effect from February 1 2022, [Blantyre Zero] is known as Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s Football Team,” the statement reads in part.

“We are welcoming a new product on board and we believe Bullets will build a solid women’s team that will strongly compete at national level and be able to participate in regional and continental competitions.”

The women’s outfit is Bullets’ fourth team as they also have the senior men’s side, a reserve side and a youth squad.

Meanwhile, Silver chief executive officer Thokozani Chimbali yesterday said they are still consulting on the possible acquisition of a women’s outfit.

But National Women Football Association chairperson Suzgo Ngwira yesterday said Silver would like to rope in Skippers FC although the FAM Central Region Women’s Football League third-placed team’s administration manager Linda Kasenda claimed the Central Bankers are yet to approach them.

Blantyre Zero founder Sadiki Malinga confirmed the arrangement yesterday but refused to shed more light on the deal because they are still negotiating with Bullets.

“I will comment much once the talks with Bullets president [Konrad Buckle], who is outside the country, are fully finalised. But at present, we have agreed that Bullets can go ahead with the announcements,” he said.
