Bullets beat Karonga to extend Super League lead
FCB Nyasa Bullets have extended their lead on top of the TNM Super League following a 2-0 away victory against Karonga United at Karonga Stadium yesterday.
The People’s Team now dictates affairs on the 16-team log-table with 59 points from 26 matches, three points ahead of second-placed rivals Mighty Wanderers FC, who have a game in hand.

This means Wanderers have to beat Ekhaya FC by at least 10 goals this afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre to dislodge Bullets with the same number of games played.
Other serious title contenders Silver Strikers, who host anchors Songwe Border United this afternoon at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, are third with 50 points from 24 fixtures.
Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa said they were delighted to have secured the victory that has eased their pressure on the title hunt with only four games remaining on the fixture list.
“This is the way to go as we fight for the league title. Today, the boys responded well as a big team. We handled the pressure professionally,” he said.
“Going forward, we will handle the pressure the way we did in this game.”
Yesterday, Bullets scored through Wongani Lungu and Ephraim Kondowe in either half in a game that was initially planned to be played at Chitipa Stadium, but was moved to Karonga’s usual base after their fans pleaded for it.
However, that did not have any psychological effect on visiting Bullets as they controlled possession from the start.
Bullets broke the deadlock after 31 minutes of play when Lungu had a simple finish inside the penalty area following a goal-mouth scramble as the Karonga defenders frantically tried to clear their lines. He scored from Babatunde Adepoju’s assist for the first half to end 0-1.
Bullets made it two-nil five minutes to time as Kondowe hammered home from an error by Karonga goalkeeper MacLean Mwale and defender Innocent Chitete.
Bullets midfielder Frank Willard was named Man of the Match.
