Business opportunity for Malawi with Indonesia

An opportunity has risen for Malawi to do business with Indonesia through a two-month virtual 36th Trade Expo Indonesia 2021 Digital Edition (TEI-DE) which begins Thursday.

It has been themed: “Reviving Global Trade.”

During the previous Trade Expo in Jakarta

Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Malawi, Tariq Kidy, said in an interview yesterday that the trade expo is expected to business match Malawian businesses and companies with those of Indonesia based on their individual needs.

The trade forum will also provide business counseling and expertise in specific sectors.

He said Malawi stood to benefit from one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world, one of the largest producers of palm oil and producers of paper.

The Consul said Indonesia encourages trade with Africa having also signed a preferential trade agreement with Mozambique.

“Malawi stands to benefit, especially soap producers who depend on palm oil derivatives as raw material. Even cooking oil producers import crude palm oil which they refine.  It is an expo that will stimulate trade for both countries,” he said.

The event begins on October 21 to November 4 2021 for an interactive session to be followed by a showcasing session to run from October 21 to December 20  2021.

Kidy explained that traders will also have the opportunity to view various products made in Indonesia and encourages both ; private sector and government departments to take an interest in the expo which will be as beneficial as a real one.

He added that people will have the opportunity to attend from the comforts of their countries without the hassles and risk of Covid-19.

According to Kidy,  products of interest include manufactured products, renewable energy, digital lifestyle and services, living comforts and amenities, fashion and beauty, medical and healthcare, food and beverages.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade, as the host of the event, said in its flier about the expo that it was hopeful to  promote a strategic platform for Indonesian exports and international buyers to connect.

The World Bank Group’s Ease of Doing Business 2021 ranking placed Indonesia at 73 from 190 countries up from 128 in 2013.
