Chakwera mobilises voters in Mchinji
President Lazarus Chakwera has assured people of Mchinji that government is dedicated to providing relief support to people affected by the recent dry spells in the district.
He said this yesterday at Tembwe Trading Centre during a visit to mobilise people to register in the second voter registration phase that started on Saturday and will run up to November 22 2024.
Chakwera said government acknowledges the efforts and contribution that Mchinji District makes to the country’s economy.
He said: “Mchinji is a food basket that has been feeding Malawi and as government we recognise the effort of people of Mchinji for their contribution.
“People of Tembwe, don’t worry, more aid and support is coming and things will normalise very soon.”
The President emphasised that government has allocated Constituency Development Funds to all constituencies, an initiative that should be acknowledged and appreciated.
Chakwera also stressed government’s commitment to ensuring that only eligible people receive farm inputs under the Affordable Inputs Programme.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) secretary general Richard Chimwendo Banda urged people of Mchinji South West to register in large numbers to vote in the September 16 2025 General Election.
On his part, Mchinji South West legislator Deus Gumba (MCP) commended President Chakwera for initiating various developmental projects in the area, including bridges, housing for security personnel, a modern police unit and improved road networks.
He expressed confidence that people of Mchinji South West will turn out in large numbers to vote for President Chakwera.
In his remarks, Senior Chief Mlonyeni Jere hailed President Chakwera’s visit, emphasising its significance in the voter registration process.
