France-based women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga has again gone joint top of the French Women’s First Division scoring chart with Ada Hegerberg as the chase for the golden boot gathers momentum.

The Scorchers skipper struck the second goal as her team Paris Saint Germain (PSG) thumped Guingamp 5-0 to take her tally to 11 goals and breathe down the Lyon forward’s neck.

To add extra spice, she leads the assists chart with seven while her team-mate Grace Geyoro is the third leading scorer with nine goals.

In a match monitored on PSG Television, Tabitha, who is on a season-long loan from Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan Jiangda, scored a beauty.

She weaved past the entire Guingamp defence, leaving them embarrassingly in her wake before deftly dinking the ball past their goalkeeper in the 30th minute.

Despite the win, the Parisennes remain second with 36 points from 15 matches, seven points behind leaders Lyon.

Scored the second goal for PSG: Tabitha

In an interview yesterday, Tabitha focused more on the significance of the win while playing down her goal feat.

She said: “It’s good that we keep on piling the pressure on Lyon. We are seven points behind, but we’ll keep on fighting, knowing that any slip-up by Lyon will take us even much closer.

“I was happy to get on the scoresheet, hopefully I will keep up the momentum.”

Last season, Tabitha won the Italian Serie A Women’s golden boot with 23 goals, becoming the first African to achieve that feat.
