Chilemba arrives in USA
Revered Malawian light-heavyweight boxer Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba arrived in the United States on Sundayto step up preparations for the eight-round bout against Ghanaian Michael Gbenga.
The fight will be staged in Verona, New York, on November 16.
“I arrived on Sunday and I have already started training under Buddy Mcgirt.
“It is a special fight because it will be the first under my new promotional company [Main Event Promotions]. I’m looking forward to coming back big,” said the 26-year-old pugilist
Chilemba is signed with Main Event Promotions of New Jersey for the next three years.
He added: “I am gonna get back and continue my journey to be the world’s greatest.”
Chilemba, who boasts of 20-2-2 [nine knockouts], last took to the ring in May when he failed his WBC world title bid after losing to Briton Anthony Bellew.
The 26-year-old pugilist boldly declared: “The Golden Boy is not finished yet; I will be back stronger and more determined than ever.”
According to the latest International Boxing Organisation (IBO) rankings, Chilemba is ranked ninth in the world and first on the continent.
