Chilemba expects tough bout
Revered Malawian light heavyweight boxer Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba has said he expects a tough bout when he takes to the ring against Ghanaian Michael Gbenga today at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in New York, USA.
Responding to a questionnaire through e-mail
from Verona on Thursday, Chilemba brushed off suggestions that he is an odds-on favourite to win the bout.
“He got 16 knockouts out of his 16 wins and that, obviously, means he is a hard-hitter who cannot be taken lightly. Making a comeback on a guy like that one means I got it all and back on the world title line,” said Chilemba.
The ‘Golden Boy’, who last fought in May when he failed his WBC world title bid after losing to Briton Anthony Bellew, said his focus is firmly on today’s bout.
“This bout means a lot to me because if I win, it will be a big boost towards my revival,” he said.
The ever-optimistic 26-year-old pugilist also said he is comfortable with the weather, saying: “I am not bothered about the weather, I think it is fine for me.”
