Silver Strikers midfielder Young Chimodzi Jnr says patience helped them overcome Blantyre United 5-3 on post-match penalties at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo on Saturday to seal a 2013 Standard Bank Knockout Trophy semi-final berth.

“They beat us in the league, so we had to be cautious. We told each other to keep the ball, to strike it with patience and the coaches advised us against playing long balls,” said Chimodzi who converted the fifth spot-kick.

The quarter-final game had ended 1-1, Lazarus Nyemela scoring on the 58th minute for the Bankers and United captain Greyson Phiri converted from the penalty spot after Silver captain Lucky Malata’s tripping of winger Gerald Mwanza.

Silver will meet Civo United in the semi-final in a Lilongwe City derby. The civil servants edged Big Bullets 1-0.

Silver coach Stain Chirwa is bracing up for war.

“We knew that it would be tough. I am happy with performance but I would have loved if we had taken chances earlier. The team is good in all areas save for finishing. We have to work on this area going into the semi-final,” said Chirwa in a post-match interview on Saturday.
