Chiradzulu Council touts early learning

Chiradzulu District Council early childhood development (ECD) education coordinator Friday Kalaundi has called for more investment in early learning in the district.

He said this on Saturday in Traditional Authority Likoswe during the graduation of 50 children from Chisangalatso ECD centre.

He commended the centre for giving children an opportunity to attend elementary lessons, saying many children in the district were failing to access the same due to lack of ECD centres or income to pay for pre-school education.

“There are many children in the district who are failing to access ECD services. As the social welfare office, we will ensure that the caregivers at the centre are trained,” he said.

Chisangalatso ECD centre director Samuel Ndelemani asked for support from well-wishers to provide food and learning materials to the children.

“The centre, which has at least 100 children, was established to provide equal opportunities to children in rural areas as they do not have the same opportunities as their counterparts in urban areas,” he said.

Group village head Kalanje from said children who attend early learning classes do not drop out of school.

“I appeal to parents to send their children to ECD centres. Urge others to emulate Ndelemani’s gesture of investing in the future of our children,” he said.

About 15 456 children are accessing ECD services in the district.
