Chitoliro brings Independence Day laughter
Chitoliro Productionz will on Sunday host an inaugural Artquemy Stand Up Comedy at Stake Out Bar by the Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.
The event will be a combination of comedy, poetry, music, DJ performances and art exhibitions.

According to Chitoliro Productionz director Ken ‘Zizwa’ Limwame, the event is due to growing demand for comedy in Malawi.
“We have seen a growing demand for comedy in the country and we want to bring the best talent to our audience. We believe laughter is the best medicine and we are excited to bring people together for a night of fun and entertainment,” he said.
The lineup of performers on the day includes Mr Rodriguez, Zahir, Dee Santa, Ray, Martin Ntalika and music performances from Agorosso and Tsar Leo.
Zizwa said they want to engrave the stand-up comedy show as one of their landmark events on their UMP calendar to help the growth of the creative industry.
He said: “Our objective is to promote arts and culture in Malawi. This event aligns perfectly with our mission by showcasing local talent, providing a platform for creatives and bringing people together for a shared experience.”
In a separate interview, comedian Ray, real name Celina Nayagam, said her preparations have been intense and personal as it will be her first performance in Blantyre.
“With the show being on Independence Day, it has given me a perfect theme and opportunity to reflect on how Malawians navigate the chaos with humour, hustle and heart, “ she said.
Ray said fans should expect honest comedy, social commentary, personal confessions and few shots fired at our collective pain as Malawians.
She said: “My set is not just for laughs, it is real stories and moments where you are entertained and you tell yourself that I am right after all.”
