Church constructs K350m school block, under-five health post

New Apostolic Church Relief Organisation (Nacro) has handed over a classroom block and an under-five clinic at Kadamsana Primary School and Mkwanthama Village in Traditional Authority Mduwa in Mchinji District.

Construction of the K350 million worth facilities was funded by the church’s partners from Canada and rolled out in October in 2025 and completed in March 2026.

In an interview on Saturday, the church’s board chairperson Agrippa Phiri said the organisation was moved to intervene following congestion at Kadamsana Primary School due to lack of learning space.

He said: “Not only were the learners crowded in the classrooms, but they were also sitting on the floor.

“On the other hand, the grass thatched clinic was a death-trap to expectant mothers, especially during the rainy season.”

New Apostolic Church District Apostle for Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe Kububa Soko described the project as a symbol of hope and a demonstration of faith in action as rural areas face unbearable challenges.

He said the organisation’s vision is to improve access to quality education and healthcare in Mchinji.

“What once existed only on paper is now standing before us as a symbol of hope, progress and partnership representing dignity and opportunity where children can safely succeed,” said Soko.

While commending the organisation for the under-five clinic, Mchinji District director of health and social services Yohane Mwale appealed for the construction of staff houses to strengthen healthcare delivery in the area.

Senior Chief Mduwa said the facilities will ease challenges communities face in the area.

Mchinji East legislator Goston Brown Mazombwe (Malawi Congress Party) committed to upgrading the under-five clinic into a full health centre in the coming years.

The church also donated 80 double desks, two sets of teachers’ desks and chairs, tables and six office chairs after Mchinji District Education Office said Kadamsana Primary School has 656 learners with no class with furniture.
