Colgate Palmolive conducts oral health awareness
In commemoration of World Oral Health Day, Colgate-Palmolive Malawi on Thursday conducted an interactive oral hygiene awareness campaign at Lumbira Primary School in Chilomoni, Blantyre, under the theme A Happy Mouth, A Happy Mind.
Speaking at the event, Colgate-Palmolive Malawi Country Manager, Emily Jere, emphasized the importance of good oral hygiene and urged Malawians to conduct regular dental check-ups and reduce excessive sugar consumption.

“We are committed to promoting better oral health by conducting awareness campaigns and encouraging people to embrace good hygiene practices. Through this initiative, we aim to instill lifelong habits that will benefit children and their families,” she said.
The campaign saw children from Lumbira and Chilomoni LEA Schools receiving hands-on lessons on the correct way to brush and floss their teeth. Colgate-Palmolive also provided free toothbrushes and toothpaste to all participating students.

Headteacher at Lumbira Primary School Agnes Gamuti commended Colgate-Palmolive Malawi for organizing the event, stating that such initiatives play a vital role in shaping the oral health habits of pupils.
She said: “Teaching children proper oral hygiene at an early age is crucial for their long-term dental health. The learners were taught how to brush their teeth twice a day, as many of them were not previously taking care of their oral hygiene.”

One of the participating learners, Liana Matungwi, a Standard 4 student at Lumbira Primary School, expressed her excitement about the event.
“I have learned how to brush my teeth properly and why it is important to keep them clean. I will teach my friends at home what I have learned today,” she said with a smile.

World Oral Health Day is celebrated globally to raise awareness about oral hygiene and its impact on overall well-being. Colgate-Palmolive Malawi’s initiative aligns with this mission, ensuring that young learners are equipped with the right tools and knowledge to take charge of their dental health.
