Conference set to boost public sector accounting standards
Malawi is next month set to host an International Public Sector Accounting Standards (Ipsas) Conference in Salima, a key platform to strengthen transparency and accountability in public finance management.
The conference, organised by David Hastings Associates Limited in partnership with key government institutions, seeks to support Malawi’s full adoption of Ipsas by the end of 2026.

In an interview yesterday, David Hastings Associates Limited managing partner Tokha Mwanyungwa said they want to create a platform where stakeholders can share knowledge, ideas and experiences to support smooth Ipsas implementation.
He said: “This conference is a collaborative effort to ensure Malawi builds a strong, transparent and credible financial reporting system that meets international standards.
“Limited technical expertise remains one of the major barriers slowing progress, hence the need to bring together experts, policymakers and practitioners.”
The conference, the second of its kind after the inaugural event held two years ago, is scheduled for May 7 to 9 at Sunbird Livingstonia Conference Centre in Salima under the theme ‘From compliance to impact: Strengthening public finance accountability through Ipsas’.
By implementing Ipsas, governments can improve the quality and comparability of financial reports, attract foreign investment, and enhance economic decision-making.
