In a build-up to the 2013 Mwezi Wawala International Festival slated for next month, Nanzikambe Arts will Friday host a cultural night at the Arts Cafe.

In an e-mail interview, Nanzikambe’s project officer and theatre artist Misheck Mzumara said the café cultural night will be staged by Dikamawoko Arts.

“It will be a night of pure traditional activities. There are many artists who compose for traditional purposes who have been invited to participate in the event and some have already confirmed their participation,” said Mzumara.

He said the artists will entertain the audience through traditional dances, storytelling in English, folk music and poetry.

Dikamawoko will headline the performances.

To match the event, the Arts Café will keep its kitchen busy baking, cooking and frying various traditional foods that are common in rural areas.

Mzumara said foods on sale will be local chicken, fried and roasted, mang’ina, fritters (mandasi, zigumu and zitumbuwa) and drinks.

Meanwhile, Nanzikambe has announced that preparations for the Mwezi Wawala International Festival are going on smoothly and over 50 acts have
been shortlisted for the event.
