Dapp promotes girls’ education in Blantyre
Development Aid from People to People (Dapp) Malawi technical project leader Mary Busiley has urged girls to utilise the unwavering academic support they receive to achieve their goals.
She said this on Monday at Chinamvuu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Traditional Authority Chigaru in Blantyre District during a handover of learning materials to 50 girls under the Determined, Empowered, Resilient, Aids-Free, Mentored and Safe (Dreams) project.

Busiley said educating girls is crucial in the fight against poverty and gender-based violence.
She said: “Together with our development partners, we are committed to supporting the girls with basic education needs, but the girls have to work hard and excel in school as an appreciation for the support they receive.
“There is no excuse because organisations are reaching out and striving for their well-being.”
Chinamvuu CDSS head teacher Isaac Katomu described the gesture as timely to address challenges girls are facing in pursuing their education.
“Most of these girls’ parents depend on agriculture and rains are unpredictable, making it difficult to generate enough money or food to support their children in school,” he said.
Form Four student Mary Goweni Sidi commended Dapp Malawi for the support.
“My parents could not afford these materials that are essential for my learning. I am grateful and I will work hard to pass my Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations,” she said.
Sidi encouraged fellow students to work hard to ensure the support is not in vain.
The girls received notebooks, bags and ballpoint pens, among other materials.
The Dreams project is running with funds from the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief through Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
