Eagles blame Sulom for first league loss

Blue Eagles FC assistant coach Christopher Sibale has blamed Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for his team’s first 2022 TNM Super League loss to TN Stars.

The Malawi Police Service side lost 1-0 to TN Stars at Kasungu Stadium on Sunday courtesy of Alexander Cosmas’ strike in their last first-round fixture and Sibale had no kind words for the top-flight league runners.

He said: “We have lost, it is part of the game. But this was pre-arranged.

Banda: We cannot rule it out

“Sulom planned our loss by forcing us to play without three key players [who were with the Malawi national football team].

“So, I am sure they are happy that they have achieved what they wanted. Sulom is fixing matches.”

Eagles, who have not won in their past six league games, were without defender Sankhani Mkandawire, midfilder Micium Mhone and striker Schumacher Kuwali.

Sibale said they will recharge their batteries and come back stronger for the second round.

“This is just the end of the first round, there are 15 more games to play,” he said.

The cops have finished the second round on 30 points, 11 points behind leaders and defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets

Reacting to Sibale’s claims, Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said: “You know it is a technical opinion and Sulom is just administering the league.

“We respect their opinion and ensure that the rules and regulations are adhered to.

“Even Satan defended himself in all the criticism he suffered, but Jesus wrote the Bible to defend himself. Similarly, as per rules and regulations, only teams that contribute more than three players to the national team are exempted.”

Following the win, TN Stars have wound up the first round on 14th position with 12 points.
