Ekwendeni Theological College risks being closed because of financial problems unless well-wishers come to the rescue, Nation on Sunday has learnt.

Livingstonia CCAP Synod moderator-elect Reverend Dougrous Chipofya has since asked well-wishers to help save the institution which falls under the synod.

Chipofya was speaking at Sunbird Mzuzu Saturday last week when the synod organised a dinner to raise funds for the purchase of food for the college.

He said because of the situation the college is struggling to feed its students.

“We are a faith-based and non-profit making organisation that depends on the synod, but they too have over-stretched their budgets; hence, our fundraising,” said Chipofya.

He said those who want to help the college can meet chairperson for the fundraising committee Love Kamanga at St Andrews CCAP Church in Mzuzu or call her on +265-0-88883337.

The college is seeking to raise K1 million (about $2 500) to deal with the situation.

Chipofya said currently the college has 33 students, but the number may rise because more students are expected to begin classes.

Principal of the college Reverend Binnie Mwakasungula thanked those that supported the cause.
