EPM handover office block to Mulanje Police

Eastern Produce Malawi (EPM) on Monday handed over a fully furnished victim support unit office block worth K35 million to Mulanje Police Station aimed to end gender-based violence GBV in the district.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, EPM managing director David Reynolds said the company has zero tolerance for GBV.

He said: “We must all work together to remove the frustrations and circumstances in daily life that give rise to GBV and perpetrators must expect arrest, investigation and prosecution.

“Through this facility, victims of GBV will have the right to expect support and assistance to cope with the trauma.

Reynolds added they would continue supporting police in the communities to deliver much-needed assistance.

“With such support from police, we are well placed to help in and serve the communities around us which is our greatest wish,” he said.

In her remarks, South East Police Region commissioner Chikondi Chingadza said the office block will improve victim support services in the district.

“The district has been registering many cases of GBV and this facility will assist us to provide vital support to victims.

“The offices are well equipped and there are also special rooms that will allow victims to feel comfortable to share their grievances.

Mulanje acting district commissioner Ellen Kayira the district reports more cases of rape, defilement and assault that require police intervention.
