The Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) should build on its hosting of the fifth edition of the All Africa Pool (Aapa) Championship by establishing a pool house.

Sports Council board member Dean Pinto gave Mapa the challenge on Saturday in his capacity as a guest of honour marking the end of the Aapa Championship at Robin’s Park in Blantyre.

“Government and Sports Council have land available for you to develop your own home either around Kamuzu Stadium or Kamuzu Institute for Sports [in Lilongwe]. You should consider having a pool house. In these pool tables, you have a starter-pack,” said Pinto.

Mapa had, with government support, bought top-class pool tables for the Aapa championship which had Zambia and South Africa winning gold for the men and ladies categories respectively.

Malawi ladies’ bronze was the sole consolation in the event that also attracted teams from Tanzania and Lesotho.

Speaking earlier at the closing ceremony, Mapa general secretary Saulos Thindwa announced that Aapa will decide on the host country for next year’s championship in view of Zimbabwe’s failure to turn up for this year’s edition.

Thindwa said a number of countries such as Tanzania have expressed interest to host the event.
