Tigresses eye Rainbow Paints qualification

Tigresses are determined to capitalise on their key players’ availability in Saturday’s Group B matches for the Rainbow Paints Top VI Netball Series at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).

While the other giants await the return of Malawi Queens players currently in New Zealand, Tigresses will be in Group B action against Airwing and Glass Bank.

Tigresses general secretary Helene Mpiganjira said they had a full house in view of the Netball Association of Malawi’s (NAM) axing of Sindi Simtowe, Beatrice Kadango, Lauren Ngwira and Grace Mhango from the Queens.

“We hope to win all games since we have never lost in the league to any of the teams we are meeting,” Mpinganjira said during the team’s Monday afternoon training at BYC.

The four players were dropped after protesting NAM’s docking of Tigresses points on grounds that one of their players had tested positive of pregnancy. Sports Council cleared the Kau Kau ladies of wrongdoing.

Simtowe echoed Mpinganjira’s optimism that winning was almost guaranteed, but said they can still not be complacent.

Top two teams from each group will play against the other pool’s best two with the overall winners making the finals and third-place play-offs.
