Exide Express on Thursday boosted Poly darts team’s morale with golf shirts valued at K380 000 ahead of the Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) Darts Championship at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe this weekend.

The team’s captain Eliah Chisambiro, who was accompanied by team manager Harry Msiska and senior player Leonard Gondwe, said they are motivated to win the annual national championship to show their appreciation for the battery, tyre and oil suppliers.

“It is rare for companies to support individual teams nowadays. We will look smart at the event and we will show our appreciation for this gesture by winning the trophy,” he said.

Exide sales and operations manager Judith Luhanga said the assistance is part of their corporate social responsibility and part of giving back to the University of Malawi’s (Unima) constituent college, The Polytechnic for being a corporate client.

The Polytechnic sports administrator Chifundo Tenthani said the institution is excited with the donation to the darts team and he urged other companies to support other sports teams at the institution.

At the PIS, Poly CEC will compete in the 11-team senior category.

The event will also have ladies and junior men’s sections.
